Community Garage Sale- It’s back!

A new date! Britton and Deerfield are partnering to hold our Garage Sales the same weekend. This will increase our exposure and reduce our advertising expenses.  The Britton-Deerfield Community Garage Sale will be held on June 7th and 8th. There will be space available for those who want to reserve a space nearer the center of town. No tables will be provided. We hope to be adding a Farmer’s Market. If you are interested in either of these options, contact Doreen at the Clerk’s Office by May 17th. The usual permit and fee will be waived for the weekend. If you register by May 30th, your name and sale will be shown on a map of the village.

Keep checking for more information.

We are excited about the activity that is going on in the Village!
M-50 has been upgraded, and the Streetscape Project is nearing completion.
Next to arrive will be the lampposts.
Then, watch for the completion of the sidewalks.

History of the Town Name

The Village of Britton had many names before it became officially "Britton" on the map. As families settled in the area east of Ridgeway, the papers referred to it as "East Ridgeway". Gault is the name used in the early Tecumseh Heralds. It has been said that Gault was north of M-50 about a half a mile. This area was also known as "Goat Town". This name was given because of the goats raised by a man living north of town. Balch, was the name given by the railroad. The citizens wished the town to be called Britton, however there was another Britton stop and the Railroad named it Balch, in honor of a retired railroad official. The people were upset for several years and continued to call it "Britton Station", although records say it was not officially Britton until 1888.
